How to ask for a haircut in French
Book first: “Je peux prendre rendez-vous ?”. In the chair, say “Je voudrais une coupe de cheveux, s'il vous plaît”, then how much to take off: “Juste les pointes” for a trim, “Pas trop court” to play safe, or “Vous pouvez enlever un peu sur les côtés ?”.
Try it · about two minutes
You book a haircut and explain to the hairdresser exactly how much to take off.
Sound on: the hairdresser speaks French. You choose what to say back, and Frasa tells you why it works.

How a visit usually goes
- 1
Book in person, by phone or online; some salons also take walk-ins (sans rendez-vous).
- 2
Say what you want before the wash: a cut, or a cut and blow-dry (un brushing).
- 3
Check the mirror at the end and ask for a little more off if you need it.
Words for the chair
Les pointes are the ends, la frange the fringe, la nuque the back of the neck, un dégradé layers (or a fade, on short hair). Price lists often show the shampoo, cut and blow-dry separately or as a package (un forfait): check what yours includes.
