How to ask for a haircut in German
Ask “Nehmen Sie auch Kunden ohne Termin?” or book ahead with “Kann ich einen Termin machen?”. In the chair, say “Ich möchte einen Haarschnitt, bitte” and how much to cut: “Nur die Spitzen, bitte” for a trim, “Nicht zu kurz, bitte”, or “Oben möchte ich es etwas kürzer”.
Try it · about two minutes
You drop in at a hairdresser’s and explain exactly how much to take off.
Sound on: the hairdresser speaks German. You choose what to say back, and Frasa tells you why it works.

Waschen, Schneiden, Föhnen
- 1
Book ahead, or ask if they take walk-ins.
Can I book an appointment? - 2
Before the wash, say what you want while your hair is dry.

Price lists often show “Waschen, Schneiden, Föhnen” (wash, cut, blow-dry) as one service, with a dry cut listed separately.

Pay at the counter. Many people round up for the hairdresser.
Show a photo
Haircut words are hard in any language. A photo on your phone and “so ungefähr” (roughly like this) does most of the work.
So ungefähr, bitte.
Roughly like this, please.
Sie, unless they say du
Wie hätten Sie es gern?
How would you like it?
Wie hättest du es gern?
How would you like it? (casual)
Most salons speak to customers as Sie. Some younger salons and barbers use du from the start; just answer the same way.
